Regret is a big bully, silently badgering your life. Those if onlys push you around, instigating what you will or will not do, what you say or how you hold back. Regret is like an open tab on your computer labeled Things I Should or Should Not Have Done.

Big or small, consciously or subconsciously, regrets affect everything in your life.

Perhaps you regret a life choice that took you in directions that did not work out. Or you regret having hurt someone. Maybe you regret not having appreciated moments in your life, wasting the precious gift of time. Or that you knew the direction you wanted to go but instead listened to advice from others. Or blindly obeyed the voice of fear.

The list is endless. And tragic.

For a minute, let's give equal time to the spiritual understanding of life. Your soul knows that everything you go through is a learning experience. Higher consciousness teaches that since life is an ongoing journey of awakening, unfolding to who you really are, there is nothing to regret. Ever.

Your evolved self knows that anything you did, any choice you made, can and will be resolved in some way. It reminds you that there is no time limit since you have forever. It knows that spiritually, no one was or ever hurt since spirits cannot be harmed.

As a human in this real world, those higher concepts are easier said than believed. You try applying spiritual bypass tactics but they only work temporarily. Wallowing in the muck, you lose time in misgivings. You try but cannot forgive yourself for the choices you made, feeling unable to do anything about them.

When you least expect it, regrets show up and lament themselves. You take a beautiful stroll and feel overwhelmed with regret that you never took time to walk with your young children. Or you ponder how your life would have been if you had taken that other job, married that other guy, purchased that other house, turned left instead of headlong into that accident.

Regrets are often from not listening to your intuition, ignoring the messages from your higher wisdom. It would be rare for someone to look back and think, wow, if only I had not followed my inner knowingness. Regret happens more frequently the other way around, even if things did not work out as you had hoped.

At the end of your life, it is certain that your greatest regrets will be choosing to listen to fear rather than trusting. That you said no too often. That you did not break out of your endless loop of programmed doubt. That you cared more about the acquisition of things rather than helping others. That you did not answer that inner call, instead choosing safety and certainty. That you lived your life inauthentically, held back your true self.

However, the biggest regret you will have when leaving this realm is that you withheld love. You were afraid of giving love, truly connecting with others. You believed you were not worthy of being loved.

Avoiding that death bed scenario means starting now to clean up regrets.

Although you cannot go back in time, there are always ways to feel resolved. Communicate with those you feel regret toward. Trust yourself to not create more regrets. Be curious and take those risks. Know that from now on you deserve a life that is an expression of authenticity, love and trust in all ways.

And thank your past regrets for being your best teachers, waking you up to evolve, expand and transcend.

This is a beautiful writing, much of it is real and poignant. I find other parts to be a challenge that you are not entitled to make. It is precisely because I listened to this challenge which resulted in me losing my home, my business, my investment, my health, my pet. Sometimes it is the far greater choice to entertain the safety of what we have already created and build on that. Out of this I learned to never trust another's perception of what fear and trust really is.
