What if there was one thing you could do to be happy?

Not like a day at Disneyland happy, but to the depths-of-your-soul happy.

Happy no matter what was going on, even during endless months of a pandemic and cries for racial justice.

Happy even when other emotions were around.

Not the sappy don’t worry be happy kind of happy, but the inner knowing, absoulute trust filled, profound knowing that it truly is all good.

Sound unfeasible, like an impossible fantasy built on cliches?

It’s not.

So, what is that One Thing?

It’s letting go of attachments.

Centuries ago, Buddha based his teachings on it. Most spiritual and religious disciplines espouse it in some way.

But if you’ve tried it, you undoubtedly discovered it’s way easier said than done.

You've tried praying, meditating, reading books about it, reciting affirmations. But try as you might, that elevated notion wouldn’t stick for long, leaving you feeling like a failure of Spirituality 101.

So, you try faking it, saying "correct" Higher Consciousness aphorisms, perfecting spiritual bypass techniques so no one could see your pain.

Why You're Attached

Upon arrival, you started buying the notion that you’re a physical body, living in a material world. You got very attached to this earthly realm, believing it’s who you are and who everyone is. You could see, touch and feel things so it must be real.

The thought of losing someone you love, having something you care about get destroyed or taken away, generated fear and trembling. Don't even go there about the notion of your own death.

You started believing that externals made you happy, let you feel loved, or brought security. Your primitive, fear-based consciousness convinced that you wouldn’t survive without those things or people, so you pretended they were permanent.

You created selationships based on fear and neediness, doing anything and everything to make sure they stayed. Or, optionally, you wouldn’t allow yourself to get too close so as to not experience the pain of loss.

You did this over and over, even though repeatedly finding that happiness from an external place was but a temporary, fleeting experience.

Everything is Energy

Although you might intellectually accept the notion that everything is energy, interconnected and indestructible, experiencing life beyond your five senses is a different animal.

That takes some Big Brave Higher Consciousness Clearing Work to resolve the fears getting in the way. Remember: Attachments go deep.

But once you get there, beyond just theoretically, it's way easier to truly be non-attached.

Life, being the best teacher you have, constantly presents opportunities to learn about your attachments.

By having things come and go in this beautiful but impermanent physical realm.

The more you face your attachments, discover the core fears that are the source of them, (I can help with that) neediness starts to quell. You start to truly know that fear is just F.E.A.R (False Evidence Appearing Real) .

Consciously exploring attachments is an adventure in discovering deep parts of yourself. The evolutionary gifts of empowerment, trust and love are the results.

Oh, and that happiness thing as well.
