Six years ago, when my fifty-seven-year-old, incredibly healthy husband, had an unexpected, debilitating stroke, I made a brave, conscious choice: I decided to hold onto the hope that, no matter what, he would not only survive, but thrive.
When medical professionals authoritatively informed me that this type of stroke leads to a dim future, I chose to not buy into their words. Instead, I listened to what they said, but treated it as simply a test of how strong my trust really was. I would think to myself, thank you for sharing those statistics, but they mean nothing about what could happen with my husband.
Honestly, their words only strengthened my desire to prove them wrong.
The power of committing to hope, no matter how something appears, allowed me to focus on possibility. Cultivating an unwavering belief that nothing is impossible opened doors for miracles.
And, there were many.
Choosing hope wasn’t another form of denial, a faith-based wish or a Pollyanna-naïve plea. Rather, it was from decades of witnessing the astonishing, life-changing results of the inner work I do with myself and others. So, this situation became an opportunity to deepen my spiritual journey and dissolve more of my subconscious belief systems.
I believe those choices changed everything.
Admittedly, I wasn’t always successful staying in Higher Consciousness. Frequently I broke down in tears, crying on his rehab therapists’ shoulders. Invariably, they’d confidently assure that his recovery would take time, but to never give up. Never was the key word.
Those wavering times spurred more inner digging. I'd discover deeper roots of what had sucked me into hopelessness and the flicker of hope would reemerge into a roaring fire once more.
Now, six years post stroke, Michael recently went from only making Neanderthal grunts and an occasional mispronounced word to actually stringing sentences together. Even though some of the words he’s retrieving don’t make total sense, the fact that he’s saying three and even four words at a time is a true miracle.
Boldly Choosing Hope
Choosing hope is a courageous, personal decision. Frequently, it’s a choice that others don’t understand, may invalidate, or try to fix with big doses of “facts” to knock you back to “reality.”
It’s a choice from knowing, believing and trusting that no matter how things appear, they're not necessarily destined to stay that way.
There’s probably nothing more important than hope. Without hope, you send a message to the Universe that you’ve given up. The Universe, being an obedient mirror, reflects back giving up on you as well.
But, with everything that’s going on in the world, is hope even possible?
This year has been challenging to maintain even the feeblest amount of hope. Looking at it through a Higher Consciousness lens, this time has been perfectly designed to help trigger and address subconscious hopelessness beliefs running in the background of your inner programming.
We all have "hopelessness programing" to some extent, and it could be what’s sabotaging you without even realizing it. It could be why, no matter what you do, things don’t work. Making choices with the disempowering energy of hopelessness behind them, that’s what shows up of course.
Yet, simultaneously, and equally powerfully, hopefulness is etched inside you, even down to a cellular level. That part tries to tell you that have the power to start, change or stop things as it tries desperately to have you succeed in life.
Truth be told, it’s tough to claw your way out of hopelessness since you’re going counter to the deep-seated belief that it’s hopeless to do so.
But, recognizing that hopelessness is simply a false belief is the first step. Discovering its roots and yanking it out is the second step. (I can help with that)
Know that you deserve to declare a hopeful mindset, choosing what’s possible rather than what appears destined.
Build your life on a foundation of hope, choosing to fulfill why you chose to be here.
Empower every decision, every dream with hope. Refuse to consider any other possibility.
During this time of winter’s darkness, trust that only from that darkness will you recognize the light of hope.
