A-PROVE-ALL: WHAT'RE YOU REALLY TRYING TO PROVE? Inner-Action #7

(Craving some pandemic wisdom? Enjoy these inner-focus topics starting with the letter A.)

_________________________________________________________________________

Sitting in this "interesting" time of planetary uncertainty, are you trying to prove yourself more than usual? Prove you're responsible, safe, taking good care of yourself and others? Prove this quarantine thing isn't making you crazy; prove you're a smart, caring, grown up?

Many are. And it's exhausting for sure.

Your primitive, survival-based consciousness functions completely from fear. It desperately craves approval, absolutely convinced that without it you wouldn't survive.

Its job is to make sure you do survive, so, as Yoda would say, get approval you must.

The need for approval shows up in countless ways: Trying to prove you’re better than, more special than, smart, or perfect. It can be subtle such as proving you’re right, proving how horrible your life is, or proving how much you care. Or don’t care.

Here's a handy-dandy Approval Rule of Thumb: Feeling the need to prove yourself is in direct proportion to how much you approve of yourself.

In other words, if you're truly confident about who you are, the opinions of others won’t make any difference to you. At all. You won’t need validation from anything or anyone.

But, if part of you is not quite sure of yourself, or believe you’re faking certain qualities, what others think about you will matter a lot. You’ll be riding the futile merry-go-round of overcompensating to prove yourself, hoping others won’t discover what you’re hiding and gosh darn it, approve of you.

And guess what? They probably won't. They'll be mirroring exactly how you really feel about yourself, right back in your face.

Going deeper

What we're all trying to constantly prove is we deserve to be here, to exist.

Why? Again, it boils down to your primitive, fear-based, survival programming.

As a human, every breath you take is from a relentless and constant effort to make sure you survive. To assure that happens, you need to constantly prove you deserve to be here. That’s accomplished by making sure you are accepted, approved of.

Is it coincidental that so often people die shortly after they retire? The day-to-day deserving to be here validation no longer exists, so their fear-based consciousness says I’m so outa here.

Futile need for approval

Here's your Cosmic Joke: If you aren’t approving of yourself, even if you get approval from others, it can't fill that void. The only person who can do that is you.

Keeping the accuracy of mirrors in mind, if someone's lack of approval bothers you, they’re simply showing that you believe their opinion is true, but you would never admit it.

That's called denial.

You then spend lots of time rationalizing that you really are great, blaming others for not approving. Easier than admitting your own self-disapproval, right?

So, here's a good inner-question to ponder: What are you really trying to prove? And to whom? What are you trying to cover up by gaining approval from others?

There's a Higher Consciousness part of you that knows your Truth. Trust it.
